Course Description:
This 8-hour program geared toward young outdoor enthusiasts and their families, provides essential information for possible emergency situations. You will learn basic first aid, CPR & AED, how to make fire, build a shelter, find and purify water, signal for help, and what to do and not do if you should become lost. This course will be very hands-on, and will include outdoor training activities. We will also make First Aid / Survival Kits.

Everyone should be prepared for injuries and medical problems when in a wilderness or other location in which professional medical care is not readily available. The Wilderness Medical Society defines "wilderness" as being more than 1-hour away from definitive medical care. Thus, you may be in a wilderness environment without realizing it. This course will give you peace of mind when enjoying the out of doors, alone or with others.

This program provides essential information for when medical help is more than one hour away. You will learn the basic knowledge and skills to make good decisions in emergency situations. You will learn prevention techniques of many common as well as less common emergencies, assess medical concerns and injuries. You will explore the appropriate ways to act in various emergency and medical scenarios, as well as be prepared for possible disasters such as adverse weather, signaling for help and assembling First Aid Kits. ECSI certification is recognized by the Boy Scouts of America and the American Camp Association.
